THE NOVEL

Losing It is full of humour, engaging characters
and sharp commentary about misplaced ambition, the meaning of success, life in the corporate jungle, and beer.

Wannabe fine art photographer Peter Skye struggles to support himself and his dog Edwyn by freelancing for large corporations, even though he’s appalled by the way they treat their employees.

When his sister Catherine convinces him to help her wealthy husband Lee cover up a road rage incident that threatens to sink his succession to CEO, Peter begrudgingly agrees to work with the company’s fixer to hush up the scandal.

Immediately, his corporate qualms intensify as he’s dragged into an unfamiliar world of intrigue and suspicion. It soon becomes evident that the young man Lee assaulted, Tony, isn’t content to fade away into the background. Complicating matters further, Peter unexpectedly falls for Tony’s beautiful sister, Jessica.

As events race to a climax, Peter hatches a desperate plan to free his family from the obligations of corporate succession, all the while trying to make ends meet and keep his artistic soul alive.

What other authors say about Losing It

“In Losing It, Simon Hally has written a funny and rip-roaring tale, deftly navigating the complexities of family, love, business, and the tough choices we all make that end up shaping our lives. By turns hilarious and thought-provoking, the pages turned themselves.”

Terry Fallis, two-time winner of the Leacock Medal for Humour

“From the opening sentence of this fascinating work—‘It was four in the afternoon

when I was called downtown to shoot a banker’—Simon Hally asks the question,

what is the place of the thinking individual in a complex corporate society,

and consistently keeps the reader wondering, what will happen next?

Losing It is populated by accurately drawn original characters whose paths

become intricately intertwined in a story told in terse prose punctuated with moments

of rib-tickling sardonic humour. I couldn’t put it down.”

Patrick Taylor, New York Times best-selling author

of the Irish Country Doctor series

“In Losing It, Simon Hally looks deep into the sad, funny and ridiculous world

of corporate Toronto, and tells an unforgettable and entertaining story

about where ambition so often takes us. Losing It is a winner.”

Todd Babiak, best-selling author of The Empress of Idaho
